When: February 11 – 14, 2018 The famous Belgian three-day carnival before the Great Catholic Lent begins in February. The holiday has its own character, he is called Gilles. Gilles is a man in a voluminous costume with a wax mask, goggles and bells, chasing away winter.

Carnival begins on Sunday, the small town of Bensch overflows with tourists who come to see performances, listen to music and dance. Bands that have prepared traditional performances pass through the streets of the city. All this is accompanied by competitions, festival guests are happy to join the artists. The second day of the festival is called “youth day”. On this day, young people take control of the carnival in their hands. Colorful platforms appear in the city, which shower spectators with confetti and sweets. On youth day, everyone tastes culinary masterpieces right in the street, and in the evening a grand fireworks display appears in the sky. On the last day, all the Carnival residents meet in the morning and start their day with oysters and champagne. Then they dance on the square and call for spring to come sooner.
